Where Freedom Walked
Reflections recorded in place at historic Underground Railroad sites. The first stories in the atlas, and the raw material for everything it builds next.
Open Where Freedom WalkedEmpathy Atlas
Empathy Atlas turns data and maps into empathy, a growing atlas of human stories, so we can live inside each other’s realities.

The spectrum of human emotion, touching the layers of story.
How the atlas listens
Empathy Atlas is a shared system that many projects feed into. Each one gathers human stories in a place, ties them to the emotions they carry, and adds them to one growing atlas you can explore.
01 — Listen
People reflect where their history happened. We record with care, leading with the human before the number.
02 — Map
Words sit on the map colored by the feeling they carry and sized by how often they were shared, the Empathy Atlas emotion system.
03 — Explore
Move through the stories, in a map or immersed, where words whisper at a distance and clear as you approach.
The emotion system
Six core emotions expand into the words people actually use. Choose a word and the stories that carry it flow out, the core interaction across every Empathy Atlas experience.
